O, Lady Mary Ann looks over the Castle wall,
She saw three handsome boys playing at the ball,
The youngest he was the flower among them all -
My handsome lad is young, but he is growing yet!

' O father, O father, if you think it fit,
We will send him a year to the college yet;
We will sew a green ribbon round about his hat,
And that will let them know he is to marry yet!'

Lady Mary Ann was a flower in the dew,
Sweet was its smell and lovely was its hue,
And the longer it blossomed the sweeter it grew,
For the lily in the bud will be lovlier yet.

Young Charlie Cochran was the sprout of an oak;
Handsome and blooming and straight was its make;
The sun took delight to shine for its sake,
And it will be the brag of the forest yet.

The summer is gone when the leaves they were green,
And the days are away that we have seen;
But far better days I trust will come again.
For my handsome lad is young, but he is growing yet.
